Endeavour Challenge Update
We have not been able to get the required amount of people needed to field a team for the Endeavour Challenge so we’ll have another look at that next year well in advance.
Team Members Needed for Endeavour 500 Challenge
The Endeavour 500 Summer Challenge is a team fund-raising epic held on November 21-23rd. A team of between 18-22 runners take it in turns to run 500km in legs starting on Friday morning 4:30am in Beenleigh and work its way through Warwick, Toowoomba and eventually ending in Gatton.
Striders are looking to put a team in to this epic race. It will be a great weekend. Lots of hard work but lots of cameraderie between runners and a great sense of achievement. We will be helping to support the valuable work of the Endeavour Foundation.
Our team bid coordinator is Wendy Clark. The logistics will involve a bus, a ute and a support car so we do need some non-runners, injured runners, or runners who would like to be involved but not run.
Please check out the links and then let us know if you are interested. Use the contact form to register your interest.
Striders Ironman Trio
Last weekend 3 Striders travelled to Yeppoon north of Rocky to compete in the gruelling Half Ironman. Fabian Gonzales, Joey Filed and Mary Jackson completed months of hard training and had a good day out.
The distances were 1.9km for the swim, 90km for the ride and a 21.1km run. Continue reading “Striders Ironman Trio”
Bridge to Brisbane
Bridge to Brisbane is coming up soon on September 7th. If you need training advice make sure you speak to Stan, Gabriel or Mary. Unfortunately we cannot take our club tent there, but we will nominate a gathering point closer to the time for post race celebration. The bus to take you from the RNA showgrounds to the start is already sold out so if you are planning on attending the event be sure to let Gabriel know so we can discuss transport options to get you to the start line with adequate preparation time.

The Day After Comrades
The ‘day after’ Comrades is always a good day, despite the fact that you walk like you have a carrot inserted in and uncomfortable place… I spent 2 hours walking around a shopping centre and I’m feeling it now!
Ther were some interested facts that arose from the wash up of the race. Firstly, nobody died, despite the very high temperatures: 27 degrees Celsius. Only two guys got mugged, both for their shoes, both in the bush going to the toilet! One guy carried on running in his socks, and the police caught the robber, chased after the guy, gave him back his shoes and he carried on to finish. Only in South Africa! The Road To Comrades – Part 2
I’m counting down the hours rather than the days now. I leave on Thursday and arrive in south Africa on Friday morning. I should be arriving at the Comrades Expo at about lunchtime.
The hairs all over my body stand on end whenever I enter the Expo. I remember the first time being very emotional. You can almost slice the atmosphere in there and bottle it. There is an air of anticipation in the air and you are surrounded by thousands of people in peak physical condition. Continue reading “The Road To Comrades – Part 2”
