Coyote Ridge Traile Run, USA
My first international race and my first trail race happened all at once on Saturday 18 October 2014. I am over in San Francisco for a work conference and as part of the conference, a group of about 30 of us led by one lady from Houston signed up for a 7 mile trail run on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge from the city starting at a place called Muir Beach. I was the lone Aussie amongst many countries represented which were Austria, Canada, China, Cyprus, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Netherlands, Peru, South Africa and of course USA. Toowoomba Marathon 2014
A small group of Striders made the journey to Toowoomba for the Toowoomba marathon last Sunday. While Toowoomba is a tough course I love the small community feel of this event and this year was even better. Continue reading “Toowoomba Marathon 2014”
Striders At Melbourne Marathon
Whilst many of our club mates made the annual trek to Toowoomba to support our fellow amateur runners at their annual event, Chris Edwards and I decided to tackle the marathon that promotes itself as Australia’s biggest. Continue reading “Striders At Melbourne Marathon”
Sunshine Coast Half Ironman Report
I guess my race report could be titled ‘How Not to Race a 70.3’, however as I often say, to finish should always be your first and last goal, and while I salvaged that I have to say it was one of my ugliest races I have done in a while. I never expected it to be pretty with a lack of consistent training (heck a lack of training full stop) but there are no excuses there. Continue reading “Sunshine Coast Half Ironman Report”
Glasshouse Trail Running Race Report
Saturday 13th of September started our 1st official trail run of the 2014/15 season. Glasshouse trails had it all happening from 10km all the way to a 100miler run….that’s right, 168km for those not from America. It was a brisk morning with plenty of the usual suspects. Striders out on the course were the Banfields, Paul Vennels, Enda Cotter, Nicole Van Gurp and Jerrod Smith (A.K.A… Mr. and Mrs. Smith) Continue reading “Glasshouse Trail Running Race Report”
Spartan Beast
On the 6th September a brave group of Striders went to Ivory’s Rock (just outside Ipswich) to take on the Spartan Beast. The Beast is a 21k trail run with 35 physically challenging obstacles thrown in along the way. If you miss an obstacle, there is a 30 burpee penalty! Our team consisted of Michael Stark, Nigel Small, Peter Wilkes, Anthony Fuster, Tanya Wehl and Ben McDonell (friend of Striders). Louise Lewis was our cheer squad and support crew. Here’s what unfolded – in verse… Continue reading “Spartan Beast”
Pain is Temporary, Dog Tags are Forever
Having just completed my first marathon, the thought of completing a 96km walk seemed simple. “It’s only a walk,” they said. It didn’t take long after beginning our training that we realised the difference that steep, steep hills and undulating terrain can make to the severity of the experience. Continue reading “Pain is Temporary, Dog Tags are Forever”
A Striders Christmas
T’was the night before the Variety Santa Fun Run,
there wasn’t a sound but Santa suits lay around,
We’d pre-race loaded with pasta not beer,
hoping that many Santa’s would in the morning appear. Continue reading “A Striders Christmas”
New Club Champion Crowned
Our annual Striders Awards Dinner held at the Wantima Golf Club on Nov 15 saw a new club champion crowned. Enda Cotter took the honours this year after a massive year, performing consistently across all distances. It was a great comeback after a long lay off from injury.
