Striders At Twilight Running Festival

Jerrod & Gavin limber up for the Half Marathon

It was a busy weekend for a lot of Striders either warming up for Mooloolaba Triathlon on Saturday, racing at the Bribie Tri on Sunday or competing in the Twilight Running Festival on Sunday night. It’s a tough race at the start of the race season but our runners toughed it out and the rain held out as well.  It was an evening of impressive achievements and at least two firsts. Youngest Strider Set For Brazil

Matthew Stark - picture from Northern Times

Great story in the Northern Times about Striders youngest member.  Matthew Stark comes along to the 5am interval sessions on Tuesday along with his dad Michael, and keeps on going like a Duracel bunny.  Running isn’t his only strength, he’s a pretty mean swimmer as well. Read the story in the Northern Times here.

Striders Public Meeting – 16 March 2011

Five years ago our running club was ‘birthed’ from within South Pine Community Church as a community initiative.  The intention was to establish the club and then set it free once it was able to stand on its own feet and establish it as a fully independent sporting club.  That time has now come and the leadership of SPCC have granted permission for Striders to apply to become an incorporated association.  Continue reading “Striders Public Meeting – 16 March 2011”

Record number of Striders at Gold Coast Marathon

This year saw the biggest contingent of marathoners from Striders to date at the Goald Coast Marathon ever, and an impressive 6 debutantes. We were also represented in the Half Marathon by Sandy Scott with a 1:48 PB and Pamela Murch running a scorching 1:36 to record one of the fastest times of any Strider this year. Her time certainly puts her in the box seat for annual Half marathon award yet again. Continue reading “Record number of Striders at Gold Coast Marathon”

Scaling Heights And Settling Scores At Pinnacles Classic

A gallant bunch of Striders (and some Redcliffe Tri crew) ventured to the Pinnacles Classic Trail Run last weekend. The Pinnacles Classic is described as 18 hills in 18km’s, and that is no exaggeration! Boasting hills named as ‘The Mother’, ‘The Brute’, ‘The B*********’, ‘The Double Whammy’ gives you an idea of the arduous nature of the run and the cruel nature of the organisers! Amongst the aspirants were a few Pinnacles Virgins: Ernie, Emma & Michael. Jerrod came along and ended up volunteering as a race official and as our photographer. He took more photos of himself than anything else but that’s another story. Continue reading “Scaling Heights And Settling Scores At Pinnacles Classic”

Twilight Running Festival 2010 Report

So, unless I have it totally wrong, this is the first Half Marathon of the season for all, or most, of our club runners. This is not the eaiest of Half Marathon courses and it keeps you honest and hardworking for most/all of the way. Even so, there were some good times set for so early in the season (Stan Fetting 1:29:46 ; Paul Dack 1:36:33). Some people just keep improving and you wonder what time they are capable of ….. with a little training (Duncan Price 1:42:37). Others did’nt quite achieve the times they had set themselves as targets and this is where the runner in each comes out. For these people you need to reflect on the run, learn from it, put it in the bag, leave it there and work on the next target. Pat yourself on the back for completing yet another run! Every run, good or not so good, has lessons in it to learn from. It looks as if it’s going to be a competitive year… There were also a couple of 10km entrants as well as the latest and greatest young runners, Matthew (5:08) and Emily (5:22), following in Dads foot steps and running really good 1km times. Dad may have to actually start training a bit….. Well done Matthew and Emily! See full result at the website
