Striders At Noosa Running Festival

Michael Stark, Enda Cotter & Duncan Price recover at the end of the Noosa Half

Noosa once again played host to another exceptionally well organised USM weekend of events, with the Half Marathon, 10km and 5km the focus for Striders members.  The weekend rain saw the humidity soar to 97% at 7am, when the Half Marathon was 30min underway.  Most competitors felt the effects of the humidity on the second 5km lap, but it could have been a lot worse with a lot of rain and wind the night before.  The Noosa course is a flat and fast out and back lap course, which some runners prefer as it helps break the race down into sections which helps with pacing and anticipating just where you are on the course.  The timing of the Noosa Half now makes it ideal preparation for the Gold Coast Marathon, with enough time to recover and finish off the last 6 weeks of marathon training.  The girls outnumbered the boys once again, and there were some great new PB’s. Striders At Twilight Running Festival

Jerrod & Gavin limber up for the Half Marathon

It was a busy weekend for a lot of Striders either warming up for Mooloolaba Triathlon on Saturday, racing at the Bribie Tri on Sunday or competing in the Twilight Running Festival on Sunday night. It’s a tough race at the start of the race season but our runners toughed it out and the rain held out as well.  It was an evening of impressive achievements and at least two firsts. Youngest Strider Set For Brazil

Matthew Stark - picture from Northern Times

Great story in the Northern Times about Striders youngest member.  Matthew Stark comes along to the 5am interval sessions on Tuesday along with his dad Michael, and keeps on going like a Duracel bunny.  Running isn’t his only strength, he’s a pretty mean swimmer as well. Read the story in the Northern Times here.

Striders Public Meeting – 16 March 2011

Five years ago our running club was ‘birthed’ from within South Pine Community Church as a community initiative.  The intention was to establish the club and then set it free once it was able to stand on its own feet and establish it as a fully independent sporting club.  That time has now come and the leadership of SPCC have granted permission for Striders to apply to become an incorporated association.  Continue reading “Striders Public Meeting – 16 March 2011”

Scaling Heights And Settling Scores At Pinnacles Classic

A gallant bunch of Striders (and some Redcliffe Tri crew) ventured to the Pinnacles Classic Trail Run last weekend. The Pinnacles Classic is described as 18 hills in 18km’s, and that is no exaggeration! Boasting hills named as ‘The Mother’, ‘The Brute’, ‘The B*********’, ‘The Double Whammy’ gives you an idea of the arduous nature of the run and the cruel nature of the organisers! Amongst the aspirants were a few Pinnacles Virgins: Ernie, Emma & Michael. Jerrod came along and ended up volunteering as a race official and as our photographer. He took more photos of himself than anything else but that’s another story. Continue reading “Scaling Heights And Settling Scores At Pinnacles Classic”

Bribie Island Tri Series – 6 Dec 2009

Abi participated in the Individual Long Course Bribie Island Triathlon event held on Sunday, 6 December. As you can see by her time and finishing position all that effort that Abi has put in during her training sessions is paying off and she is able to proudly boast of this result, although she probably won’t. So we will on her behalf by letting all and sundry know of this achievement. Well done Abi! Photo’s of Abi finishing the run leg can be found at the website and the photos are referenced LEE_1263-2009bribietrir2 and LEE_1264-2009bribietrir2

To all those of you who participated as well and have been missed in this summary….my apologies. Please advise the club coordinator of this error and it will be rectified. It’s not about boasting. It’s about pride and celebration of a successful and enjoyable effort. Continue reading “Bribie Island Tri Series – 6 Dec 2009”

Striders At MousDash

Abi & Karen - Mo Sista's

Tony Banfield took on the mighty Mt Coottha recently in the MousDash, here’s how it went:

It was a beautiful morning on Mt Coo’tha. I met up with Karen and Abi and a friend of mine from work. We had a chat and a catch up and got down to business. BTW, Karen and Abi were both sporting very respectable Mo’s as Mo Sistas, and they were’nt even fake! Kidding!

Started run at just past 7am and next thing found Karen up ahead some 200m up the hill. We asked her where Abi was and she said she had charged ahead. So off I went in search of Abi. Found her some 200m further ahead. Stayed and chatted for awhile and then I headed off. This was all on the initial hill of about 2.5 – 3 km long – depends who you ask. Run was up and down from there on in with a good descent lasting about 3 – 4 kms where I think we all took a crash course in racing downhill. I know I did. Some must do it naturally, hey Abi & Karen? Makes me sick!

Thanks to Photo Events for excellent pics.
