Bribie Island Tri Series – 6 Dec 2009
Abi participated in the Individual Long Course Bribie Island Triathlon event held on Sunday, 6 December. As you can see by her time and finishing position all that effort that Abi has put in during her training sessions is paying off and she is able to proudly boast of this result, although she probably won’t. So we will on her behalf by letting all and sundry know of this achievement. Well done Abi! Photo’s of Abi finishing the run leg can be found at the website and the photos are referenced LEE_1263-2009bribietrir2 and LEE_1264-2009bribietrir2
To all those of you who participated as well and have been missed in this summary….my apologies. Please advise the club coordinator of this error and it will be rectified. It’s not about boasting. It’s about pride and celebration of a successful and enjoyable effort. Continue reading “Bribie Island Tri Series – 6 Dec 2009”
The Runner – Il Corridore
A remarkarble new film about an inspirational ultra distance runner called Marco Olmo from Italy. Available now.
Saturday Morning Sessions
Our morning and evening weekday runners are now combining on a Saturday morning to do some LSD trips (long slow distance!). You have a 5:00am option and a 5:30am option. The 5:00am option kicks off from the Lilley Road Park, Cnr Lilley Rd & Sanderling Drive, Warner. These runners then run to Maccas Warner, where the 5:30am runners join the bus and head off towards Mc Gavin’s View. The runs start at about 12km and can go up to 25-30km (depending on how many runners are training for a marathon).
Your running standard needs to be intermediate at least, so that you don’t get left way behind. Typically, this session is for regular runners who are fit and need to do some LSD training for forthcoming races. To kick off at 5:00am call Stan on 0402019050 and to kick off at 5:30am speak to Gabriel on 3325 4037.
5:00am runners can park at Lilley Road Park (on the corner with Sanderling Drive), and 5:30am runners can park at Maccas and enjoy breakfast there afterwards if they want. No cost, all runners run at their own risk. There are water and toilet stops on the routes we take. Wear bright or white clothing, invest in proper running apparel so that you don’t drown in your own sweat. Those going on the longer runs should bring along some Gels and a waterbottle.
Guess Who Is Also A Runner?

We in Queensland like to think that we’ve got one up on the other States in Australia because our Premier Anna Bligh is a runner. She trains with the Pat Carrol Training Group and competes at the main events. She did the 10km at the Gold Coast marathon last weekend.
There are a few other pollies who run, but most of them tend to be males.
The latest USA version of Runners World features Sarah Palin, who is also a fellow runner. She looks the part, and I’m sure she’s an inspiration for plenty of women (except Democrat voters!).
After announcing her resingation as Governor of Alaska she will no doubt have plenty mroe time to train. Runners in Alaska must be a hardy bunch with such cold temperatures!
Read it at Runners World here.
Gold Coast Marathon
If you haven’t entered the Gold Coast Marathon yet today is the cut off for early bird registration is today. To wet your appetite here’s an excellent promo video for the GCM.
Australia loses a running legend
Australia has lost one if its most legendary running legends – Kerryn McCann, who has succumbed to cancer at the young age of 41. I have a poster of her on my office door showing her crossing the line at the 2006 Commonwealth Games triumphant after an emphatic victory thanks to her courageous attitude towards running.
She no doubt applied this tenacity to her fight with cancer but unfortunately she has lost her battle and leaves behind a husband and three children. Even before her passing, she has been widely recognised as being a warm and generous person who touched many. She set an example for us in running and in life. Long may her memory inspire others, especially women, to achieve all they can whilst they can.
Mooloolaba Triathlon Challenge
A growing number of Striders have taken on the challenge of racing each other at the 2009 Mooloolaba Tri. Most of the entrants from Striders have strengths in at least one of the disciplines and also weaknesses in at least one if not two!
It is a great way of cross training and we plan on having our marquee in the finishing area and making a great weekend of it. If we can get enough orders we are currently looking at putting together a Striders cycling kit in the same style as our running kit.
To find out more and book your place go the the Mooloolaba Tri website.
